Let's Get Frozen

Let’s Get Frozen

Some nice, Icy Treats to Beat the Heat

As the weather starts to heat up, we all want to find ways to cool down and enjoy some sweet treats. But why should humans have all the fun? Our furry friends also deserve some delicious frozen treats to enjoy on those hot summer days. So, grab your pup and let's get started on making some tasty and healthy frozen treats!

PB & BANANA POPS
First up, we have the classic peanut butter and banana popsicles. These are super easy to make and your pup will go crazy for them! Simply blend together some ripe bananas and peanut butter (make sure it's unsweetened and preferably organic), pour the mixture into ice cube trays or popsicle molds, and freeze. Once frozen, pop them out of the molds and watch as your dog happily chomps away.

FROYO PUP BITES
Next, we have frozen yogurt bites. This is a great option if your pup is lactose intolerant or has trouble digesting dairy products. All you need is some plain, unsweetened yogurt (again, organic is preferable), and your dog's favorite fruit. We recommend using organic, fresh berries like strawberries or blueberries, as they are low in sugar and high in antioxidants. Simply mix the yogurt and fruit together, spoon into an ice cube tray or silicone mold, and freeze. Once frozen, pop them out of the molds for your pup to enjoy.

WATERMELON PUPSICLES
Another great option is watermelon pupsicles. Watermelon is a great source of hydration and is also low in calories, making it the perfect summer snack. Simply use a blender to puree some watermelon chunks (without the seeds, of course), pour into ice cube trays or popsicle molds, and freeze until ready to eat.

SAVORY SOUP BITES
Last but not least, we have frozen bone broth cubes. This is a great option if your pup needs some extra hydration or protein or if they are recovering from an illness or surgery. Simply find your favorite bone broth. We use an organic, free range, low-sodium chicken broth and organic, grass fed, beef broth in our treats. Pour it into ice cube trays, and freeze. Once frozen, pop them out of the molds and watch as your dog happily chews away on their nutritious and cooling treat.

So, there you have it, Bupsters! Easy and healthy frozen treats to keep your fur fam cool and happy this summer. Remember, as with any new food, introduce these treats slowly and in small amounts to ensure that your dog's digestive system is okay with them. And most importantly, have fun while enjoying some quality time this summer!

Smell You Later

The Nose Knows

One way our dogs learn our routine

How do dogs know we’re on our way home?

We have always been fascinated by how dogs know when we’re on our way home, I remember my husband telling me how antsy my dog gets within the hour of me coming home from work. Dog’s don’t use clocks…we think…so how do they know?

One way a dog can tell when we’re home is the obvious noise factor. For example, if your dog knows that you typically come home after the sound of the mailman's delivery or the noise of the garage door opening, they may start to associate these sounds with your return.

But the most facinating is the how they SMELL us coming and going. Dogs have an incredible sense of smell that they use to navigate the world around them. Their noses are so sensitive that they can detect scents that are undetectable to humans. One way that dogs use their sense of smell is to know when their owners will be home during the day.

When we leave our homes, we leave behind a unique scent trail that our dogs can follow. Our scent is on our clothing, our furniture, and even on the air we exhale. As we move around throughout the day, our scent dissipates, but it doesn't disappear entirely. Our dogs use their powerful noses to detect and track our scent, even after we've left the house.

Dogs are able to pick up on the slightest changes in our scent, which can give them clues as to when we'll be returning home. For example, if we have a set routine where we come home at the same time every day, our dogs may start to recognize the change in the home’s scent as that time approaches.

In a book by Alexandra Horowitz, Being a Dog, she states that dogs can basically smell time. A dogs amazing nose knows that over the hours you are gone, your home begins to smell less of you. Once they sense a certain point, (and if that’s around the time you come home,) they associate it with your return.

On the flip side, our scent does eventually dissipate to a point where our dogs can no longer detect it. This is why dogs may become confused or anxious if we're away from home for longer than usual. Once our scent has dissipated to a certain point, our dogs may no longer be able to track us, and they may start to feel unsure of when we'll be returning.

This makes us love our pups even more knowing how smart they are and how adaptable they become to a routine, which is super important in their lives!

Let's Get Nutty

Let’s Get Nutty

Some info from the peanut gallery

Not all Peanut Butters are Equal

Since launching in 2017, our mission has always been to provide high-quality, healthy dog treats that pet owners can feel good about giving to their furry family members, or even for themselves. A key ingredient that we use in our treats is peanut butter. Dogs go nuts over it with good reason! We only use a one-ingredient peanut butter made right here in Rhode Island. Not only does it make for a delicious and irresistible flavor, but it also offers numerous health benefits for our dogs.

One-ingredient peanut butter is made from just one thing: peanuts. It doesn't contain any additives, sugars, or preservatives, making it a healthy and natural choice for dog treats. You may have heard of the scary toxic sugar substitute called xylitol, that many companies use in their foods, including lots of peanut butters. Hidden dangers like this scare us too, which is why we carefully choose each of our ingredients when creating recipes. It’s also why we only use four- simple is best!

Peanut butter is also an excellent source of protein, healthy fats, and vitamins B and E, which can help promote healthy skin, a shiny coat, and overall wellbeing in dogs.

We understand that dogs have unique dietary needs and preferences, which is why we offer a variety of flavors and ingredients to cater to different tastes and dietary restrictions. Whether your dog prefers peanut butter, pumpkin, Blueberries or Strawberries, we have a sweet treat with this ingredient that they will love.

Let's Get Spiced

Let’s Get Spiced

The story behind one of our 4 ingredients

Why do we use Cinnamon in our treats?

Cinnamon is not just a delicious spice that humans enjoy, it also has numerous benefits for dogs. Labeled as a non-toxic spice by the ASPCA, When used in the proper proportion- everything in moderation! - it is packed with benefits.

BUPPY PETS only uses ceylon cinnamon, which is more beneficial and healthier for dogs compared to cassia, or darker cinnamon. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties that can help alleviate joint pain and stiffness in dogs, making it a great addition to treats for senior dogs or dogs with arthritis. Additionally, cinnamon can improve circulation and help regulate blood sugar levels, which can be especially beneficial for dogs with diabetes.

Cinnamon is also a natural way to freshen your pup’s breath. This spice has antibacterial properties that can help fight bad breath and keep your dog's mouth healthy. Incorporating cinnamon into your dog's treat routine can not only benefit their health, but also make snuggling up with them more enjoyable.

It’s also the main way we naturally preserve each of our sweet recipes, giving our treats a 1+ year shelf life without anything artificial.

You can find this special spice in three of our yummy recipes- PUMPKIN NUTTERS, PB & J, and our newest, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE. We love incorporating cinnamon as a key ingredient, so you can treat your furry friend while also promoting their health and wellbeing.
